Nativity Sermon

Dear in Christ friends, parishioners, family; brothers and Sisters in the Lord:

The Nativity hymns reminds those praying, how during the memorable night, each creature hastened to bring its gift to the Baby Jesus: heaven - a star; the earth - a cave; the wilderness - a manger; the angels - singing; the shepherds - worship; the Magi - gifts. Therefore, we too should not come to Him "empty-handed," but should bring to Him what is more valuable than anything else- our pure, believing hearts. For the high God has appeared on earth, in order to raise us up to heaven!

Let’s listen to Saint Isaac the Syrian (d. AD 700) Nativity Sermon, and bring the divine peace of Christ into our homes and nation:

This Christmas night bestowed peace on the whole world;
so let no one threaten;
this night of the Most Gentle One, let not be cruel;
this night of the Most Humble One, let no one be proud;
now is the day of joy, let us not revenge;
now is the day of good will, let us not be mean;
in this day of peace, let us not be conquered by anger.
Today the Bountiful One impoverished himself for our sake;
so let us invite the poor to our table.
Today we received a gift, for which we did not ask;
let us give alms to those who implore and beg.
Christmas day opened the heavenly doors to our prayers;
let us open our door to those who ask our forgiveness.
Christ is born!
Glorified Him!
